Book Buddies Week of 1/26 - 1/31

Hiya Book Buddies:

Sorry for the lateness on this this week! Hope everyone is doing well! Here’s what’s up for this week:

Book Club :

Finally, I’ve finished the Book Club schedule through to September. You can view it in this google doc, or in past posts! The next one is Tuesday, February 17 from 6:30 - 8:30 and we’re talking about Rick Rubin’s The Creative Act: A Way of Being

Also a reminder that Book Club is open to ALL BOOK BUDDIES, and takes place during a Tuesday Gen Writing window. If you don’t usually come to Gen Writing, I will make sure you’re invited and receive the zoom link on the day of. If you don’t end up finishing the book, come anyway! It’ll be a great conversation about the creative process, I think. Also good company. Can’t beat that. Come hang.

Gen Writing Prompts for January 27 and 31, 2026

January 27 and 31, 2026

Snowy Situations

Well, here in New England we are underneath at least a foot of snow and still going. Let’s use it to our advantage and get some writing prompts out of this storm, no?

If you want to generate something new, you are asked with starting a short story, essay, chapter, poem, or anything in the medium of your choice that involves some of the following:

  • A cold plunge gathering that goes awry or opens up a new lease on life for a character

  • A group of four people with longstanding complicated relationships all take a hot tub after a blizzard

  • Aliens or beings of magic infiltrate a ski resort, building a hub on the highest mountain peak

  • People build structures out of the snow that then morph into another material and become permanent or vice versa - when the blizzard hits non-snow things turn to snow

  • The snow gives superpowers to those who eat it

  • A group uses a shovelling and plowing company as cover for community organizing

  • A person gets famous making snow sculptures but then have to work against a ticking clock to find a way to preserve their masterpieces before then melt

  • An unlikely bunch of travelers are stranded together because of the snow

Send me your announcements! I wanna hype you up!

Stay warm and cozy and safe.

ILYSM you are the best crew of writers that ever existed.

XO
